Idea Summary:Ā Teach kids Object Permanence, Shape Recognition, and More.


For a period of a few months I was a Junior Play Engineer for LumiKids, a product within Lumosity. My job entailed a lot of rapid prototyping as well as both designing and programming childrenā€™s educational games. Unfortunately, and due in no part to the quality of work, the LumiKids team at the Lumosity was disbanded after the 2015 calendar year.

To ramp me up and turn me into a valuable engineer, the LumiKids team started me off with LumiKids Park, their very first standalone app. I was mostly an assistive engineer for this first product. I would be given various improvements or bug fixes that needed to happen, and then I’d descend into the codebase, not to be seen again until the task was complete.

Six months of having 2-5 year olds completely condemn my work was a pretty big learning experience. Pretty seriously traumatizingā€¦ orā€¦ um insightful.Ā But seriously, it was incredibly valuable, and became one of my foundations for Empathic Game Design and Mew and Me. Besides that, the team was incredible. I spent the rest of my time with Lumosity lamenting LumiKids’ loss.
